Rogers Park Against ICE

EN ESPAÑOL

Do you hate ICE?

Us too! We are building a coalition of businesses in Rogers Park who oppose ICE, their presence, and the harm they do to our communities.

We are using this network to bring folks together to offer more trainings, supplies, and gathering spaces. We also want to publicly share what businesses oppose ICE in Rogers Park.

The only requirement for businesses to sign on is that those with physical locations put up a sign that makes clear ICE is not allowed.

If you’re a community member looking to host such trainings or gathering spaces, please keep reading!

The coalition is growing!

Trainings

We hosted a protester health and safety training (including how to treat tear gas + pepper spray) on December 11 facilitated by Ujimaa Medics. Future training topics coming soon.

Gathering Spaces

We are also envisioning more spaces for folks to come decompress and not be alone. Whether after patrol/verifier shifts or on days we’re taking off to rest, we need to be listening to our bodies and our nervous systems. This is heavy and difficult to hold alone.

Whether we like it or not, human beings are social creatures. A lot of us have only interacted with each other in moments of crisis or impending crisis. We have only met each other in moments of stress or fear. We are working to change that.

If you want to receive timely updates on gatherings, message @jfds.59 the word “gatherings” on Signal.

If you are a healer or mental health professional who would like to hold such space but need support (venue, registration management, supplies, etc.) please fill out our form below.

SOMATICS FOR ROGERS PARK MIGRA WATCH

These sessions are designed for those who stand watch on a patrol team, are a member of a rapid response team, or are a verifier.

Somatic practices emphasize internal physical perception and personal embodied experience. These practices can help individuals increase bodily awareness through movement and relaxation, and addresses emotional and physical issues.

In other words: build skills to attune to (and release!) the stress in your body & use neurobiology to beat fascists!

Oftentimes those of us who understand social injustice and are called to action have been traumatized ourselves. This means we already have activated nervous systems.

School patrol can be physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually draining. Many of us do a shift and then move on with the rest of the day while activated, whether we are conscious of it or not. This gathering will give us time to tune into our bodies.

There is also power in being together. Many healers and philosophers talk about how healing happens in community.

Led by Rogers Park licensed therapists who specialize in somatic attunement for organizers, activists, marginalized communities, and generally traumatized badasses.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

  1. Learn about how scanning for threats (ICE) can impact your individual body while on patrol with some neurobiological science and trauma theory.

  2. Gather tools for noticing your body and the impacts patrol might have on it.

  3. Practice movements that might support your individual body with completing neurocircuits (expelling stuck energy) with community and therapeutic support.

  4. Practice building safety and connection with your neighbors who also do patrol.
